Gay in Berlin

Berlin: Gay Hot Spot No 1 in Germany

Berlin is definitely not only one of the most exciting cities in Europe but also simply THE gay city in Germany. Almost the endless tolerance and openness makes Berlin to a Mecca for gay people from all over the world. Unsurprisingly, the gay scene with a lot of gay clubs, parties, gay hotels and gay bars is as eclectic as the Berlin citizens. This is why men like to come to Berlin. Withal the Berlin Nollendorf Platz is the gay crucial point of the city. A lot of gay clubs, bars and restaurants are located here.

The CSD Berlin, THE gay event of the year and the best time to travel to Berlin, is always at the last weekend in June. It all starts with a Prideweek where a lot of parties and street festivals are. So really funny is the CSD at the Spree, where a lot of party boats are shipping over the Spree with nice music, drinks and people. There’s a boat for every music taste. But you have to hurry because the tickets are sold out very early (ticket price: 29,00 EUR). Also a great event during the Prideweek is the lesbian and gay city festival around Nollendorfplatz with live music, dozens of information booths and market stalls, a wide range of culinary treats, performances and exhibitions curated by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender groups (free admission).

Absolutely highlight of the Prideweek: The CSD Berlin, which is popular with gay people around the world and attracts tourists from all over the world. Apart from gay parties, hotels, bars and clubs Berlin also has to offer a lot of sights, which are for free. Some of these are the Siegessäule, the Brandenburg Gate or the Eastside Gallery. Not for free but really worthwhile are the Haus am Checkpoint Charlie (Admission fee: 12,50 EUR regular) and the TV Tower (admission fee: 13,00 EUR regular), which attracts millions of tourists to Berlin. Also popular with gay people in Berlin: the unbelievable numerous shopping opportunities. Whether at Kurfürstendamm, in the shopping center of the districts, the little boutiques and stores at Hackescher Markt or in the scene districts Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg or Prenzlauer Berg: In Berlin you can go shopping for every budget and taste.

If you should describe Berlin in words, than it would be: colorful, loud, fancy, buoyant, crazy, creative, open-minded, tolerant, queer, cordially, down-to-earth. It is not for nothing that the Austrian composer Franz von Suppé once said: "You are crazy, my child. You must go to Berlin."
